Purpose and Philosophy of Music Ministry
Our Biblical music ancestors span the Scripture from Genesis to
Revelation. Many Old Testament worshippers used song and dance in praise
of God's provision, protection, and guidance. The psalmists wrote and
sang great hymns of praise and led the Israelites in glorifying the
Lord. The hosts of Heaven sang at Jesus' birth, proclaiming our Savior's
coming.
Today, the Church is just as concerned with worship in the sense of
the total response of each individual to the call of God. It is
concerned with the whole person and every area of life. Christ is the
perfect example of doing the will of God-in Him we see the perfect,
self-sacrificing love of God. True worship begins with the revelation of
God and is actualized in unselfish service and praise, not only through
the musical arts but in all areas of life and ministry. This is the
goal of MEFC's music ministry program.
Our main ministry objective is to ensure that all activities glorify God by -
-
Reconciling (evangelism): A clear, bold, and welcoming invitation to receive Christ as Savior.
-
Nurturing (encouragement): A positive, uplifting message of hope and in a difficult world.
-
Equipping: An opportunity to grow spiritually while using our God-given giftedness in the musical arts.
The music ministers of MEFC are a dedicated group of people who
have joyfully accepted the opportunities provided at MEFC for advancing
the Kingdom of God. We are a leadership group that offers quality music,
always seeking to facilitate corporate worship while functioning always
as a part of the worshiping congregation. If you would like to use
your God-given musically talents for His glory, please contact Mark
Hahn, Director of Music.
Adult Music Ministries
Vocal Ministries
Sanctuary Choir is open to everyone who is at least 18 years of age.
We meet on Wednesday evenings from 7:30 - 9:00 pm and sing a wide
variety of musical styles such as hymn arrangements, spirituals, and
contemporary songs. The choir enjoys sharing a commitment to ministering
to the congregation in song as well as fellowship with one another. If
you want to offer your singing talent to the Lord, please consider
joining the ministry of the MEFC Sanctuary Choir.
Youth Choir is an ensemble devoted to the praise and worship of
God. The group is open to junior and senior high teens who enjoy using
their voices to lead others in praising the Lord. Instrumentalists are
occasionally needed, so whether you sing or play an instrument, this
could be the group for you!
Praise Team and Praise Band are our contemporary praise and worship
teams that minister each week at the 8:15 am service. These music
ministers lead the congregation using praise and worship choruses and
songs.
Instrumental Ministries
Worship Orchestra is open to all those who are currently playing
(in a school or college setting) or who have played in the past. The
orchestra ministers to the congregation at least once per month, and
employs many different instruments - strings, brass, woodwinds, and
keyboards. This is a wonderful opportunity to use the musical skills
you've acquired and to glorify our God through your talent. The group
rehearses once per month on Sundays from 9:40 - 10:40 am
Brass Ensemble regularly ministers to the congregation using an exciting array of styles and instrumental combinations.
Handbell Choir is a great opportunity for ministry for those who
have had musical training, although training is not a requirement. This
choir meets Wednesday evenings from 6:30 - 7:25 pm. Handbells are for
the "hidden" musician in all of us!
Teen Handbell Choir is a challenging ministry for teens who play an
instrument in school or take music lessons. Open to both junior and
senior high youth, the group meets on Thursday evenings from 4:30 - 5:15
pm. This is a fun way to use your God-blessed talent to make music for
His glory.
Children's Music Ministries
Cherub Choir is for the "little angels" of the church - ages 4 -7.
This may be the first ministry for your child, and a very exciting one
for them at that! The little ones learn to sing praises to our God and
also learn Scripture and Biblical principals while having lots of fun.
The group meets on Wednesday evenings from 6:30 - 7:20 pm.
Kids Choir exposes your children to musical terms and concepts that
increase musical understanding. Children also learn about worship while
having a great time singing praises to our God! The ministry is for
grades 2 through 6 and meets on Wednesday evenings from 6:30 - 7:20 pm. A
majority of time and energy is spent on learning a musical in which all
can participate.
Tone Chime Choir is for children in grades 4 through 6 who have
begun some musical training either privately or at school. Tone chimes
are hand-held tubular instruments, very similar to handbells. This
ministry is a fun way for kids to learn basic music and instrumental
skills. Rehearsals are Thursday afternoons from 4:30 - 5:15 pm. A
commitment to weekly rehearsals is essential .
